What determines how I arrange a course ?

Updated: Jun 17

After meeting Doggy and his home during a consultation, I've got a profile and needs from every one.

A course enables to focus on practicing only.

I think it out before it takes place because I must think about the most appropriate place depending on the training to be carried out, if therefore coordinates are to be specified, what and if equipment will be necessary.

The communication I have with the family allows me to consider how Doggy and every one evolve with the advice I have given as I am exchanging with them.

When I say « hello » on starting the course, I can :

  • have already established a plan for the coming hour, a precise organization,

  • modify that plan,

  • change fully what is about to be trained.

I take several parameters into account:

The age

If Doggy is a puppy, I'll expect him not to be as focused as an adult.

If Doggy is a tired senior, I'll expect him not to be focused as long as a fit adult one.

The health

A dog with pains, with a chronic disease, with physical issues, under a treatment, will respond to. cues with a different latency than a dog in a good fit.

As a behavior consultant, my role is not to make a health diagnosis, and much less to give advice about a treatment. If doubts, I redirect to a veterinarian in order to rule out possible issues that would have any influence over Doggy's behavior and/or in order that it is looked after to help him feel better.

The emotions

Just as human beings, Doggy feels the six primary emotions : fear, anger, sadness, joy, disgust, surprise.

I have made the choice not to fill the dogs I help with fear, on purpose.

Depending on the level of emotions, on how Doggy is able to channel himself, how he is able to chill out, to move on, the session is adjusted so that I'm sure is is still able to keep learning. If he is spending his sessions reacting physiologically to stimuli, then he will be unable to take some distance to analyze, comprehend, and apprehend them in the future.

The environment

The environment is made up of everything around during a session : the weather (stormy, hot, cold), the place (downtown, forest), the stimuli (bikes, cars, children).

I'll ask little from a nordic dog when the weather is warm according to his criteria ; I'll allow him to get more breaks during the session.

I'll arrange a session inside only for a dog afraid of storms.

I'll choose a place that combines nature and city for a dog that may show anxiety in a city so that he gets closer at his own pace and serenely.

I'll opt for a large park where a dog who is uncomfortable with children can have other distractions.
